The Athelstone Recreation Reserve, a hub for community activities and sports, embarked on a significant project aimed at enhancing its facilities. In collaboration with Ausco Modular, the project involved the construction of a modular building to cater to the evolving needs of the local community.
The transformation of these facilities represents a pivotal moment in the community's history. Their existing buildings, aged and past their maintainable life, were no longer suitable to meet the evolving needs of the community. Recognising the urgency for change, the local council sought innovative solutions through a competitive tender process. Ausco Modular emerged as the successful tenderer and embarked on a transformative journey to provide a new modular facility.
The result of this transformation is a multi-functional space that caters to the diverse needs of the community. The facilities include:
- A spacious social area with the capacity to accommodate up to 200 people, offering flexibility with operable doors that can open up the space.
- An operable wall system that provides versatility to create a boardroom when needed.
- A fully equipped commercial bar and kitchen to serve the community's culinary needs.
- Additional amenities such as storage room and an administration room, ensuring the facility's smooth operation.
- Public toilets that enhance convenience for visitors.
- Options for referees' changerooms to support sports events, with two 75m2 changerooms and design flexibility to create four smaller changerooms with amenities.
The Athelstone Recreation Reserve project stands as a testament to the resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving capabilities of all parties involved. While the project's timeline may have been extended due to site limitations, as well as other external factors, the successful outcome demonstrates the effectiveness of modular construction in addressing the evolving needs of community facilities.
